Privacy
Somewhere FM has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. It does not know who you are, and it keeps nothing about you for longer than you are listening.
What stays on your phone
The places you keep, your passport stamps, your monthly postcard and where you last listened are saved only on your device. They are never uploaded. Deleting the app deletes them.
What our service sees while you listen
- A random session number made fresh each time the app starts. It is not tied to you, your device or your Apple ID, and it lets the service count listeners without knowing who they are.
- The stations you are hearing, so that other listeners can see that someone is there. This is held in memory and forgotten about a minute after you stop.
- The country your phone is set to (the region in Settings, not your location), so another listener can read “someone in Portugal is listening with you”. It is never stored, and it is never your location: the app does not use location services.
- A wave, if you tap to send one. It carries no text and no name, and it is forgotten after a minute.
- Your internet address, as with any web service. It is used in memory to keep the service fair (a limit on how many streams one address can open). Our logs store it only in a one-way scrambled form, and never together with your session or the stations you played.
Other services the app talks to
- Radio stations. Many stations play straight from the broadcaster's own server. That server sees your internet address and which station you are playing, the same as when you listen on its website. Each broadcaster's own privacy policy applies.
- MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute) provides the weather shown for a station. Only the station's coordinates are sent, never yours.
- Apple. If you choose to share crash reports and statistics with developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may pass anonymous crash reports to us. The app has no other analytics.
Sharing
“Listen together” and your postcard are shared through the iPhone's share sheet. We never see who you send them to. A shared link contains only the station's public identifier.
Children
The app collects no personal information from anyone, children included.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Questions: hello@somewherefm.app.
